I've been participating in the AI discussion for a while, and it seems that the only people worried about AI extinction are pros, which seems paradoxical. The biggest "downside" of AI to me is the long-term existential risk.
I guess, to some extent, it makes sense. A lot of people are simply stuck in the early age of AI without knowing the full extent of current capabilities, or see any misalignment as "marketing stunts".
