As time goes on I am more and more perplexed by adamant AI skeptics. There are still many objectively smart people basically echoing the stochastic parrot ("just a next token predictor", "its just spewing out the training data") argument trying to downplay (or even deny) progress of AI.
I get the financial arguments, it does seem super terrible and tech companies do have a history of overhyping or even lying, but looking at the tech i just cant understand how they cant see the capabilities and more importantly how they cant extrapolate the progress (which starts to look exponential in my opinion).
So what is their conscious/unconscious motivation for being anti ai?
Fear?
Sunken-cost fallacy?
Belief in human superiority/specialness?
Obviously there are just straight out grifters, but im not asking about them rather the honestly anti-ai people.
