I had a weird thought:
What if some lower-tier AI models knowingly make certain mistakes or give lower-quality answers, while higher-tier models are much better at detecting and fixing those mistakes?
Not necessarily because the AI is βevil,β but because it could create a business model:
Basic model β makes mistakes β user needs a better model β premium model fixes them.
Imagine if the ecosystem gradually becomes:
This AI can solve 80% of your problem.
For the remaining 20%, upgrade to the more powerful model.
Of course, this could also simply be a result of smaller models having fewer parameters, less reasoning ability, less context, etc.
But here's the interesting question:
How would we actually know whether a model is making mistakes because of its limitations, or because it was intentionally designed to leave certain problems for a higher-tier model?
Has anyone in the AI industry discussed this possibility seriously?
Just a shower thought β curious what people here think.
