The Matrix Revisited: Challenging Morpheus’s Red-Pill narrative

A lot of people seem concerned about the idea of "evil machines taking over", such as in The Matrix or Terminator. It seems to me that those scenarios are often contrived to justify the humans-vs-machines context. It seems more likely to me that if we had super intelligent machines that "take over control" that the machines would actually act in humanity's best interest. But if they are much smarter than humans, would humans even recognize that the machines are actually helping, or would we interpret the actions we don't understand as being hostile?
