| UK supermarket Sainsbury's has temporarily stopped its use of AI facial recognition in one of its London stores after a customer was wrongly identified as a shoplifter and asked to leave. The retailer said the incident at an East Dulwich branch was caused by "human error", but it has suspended the technology at that store while it investigates. Sainsbury's will continue rolling out facial recognition technology across other stores. Earlier this year, Sainsbury's announced plans to expand its use of the technology to help "keep people safe", citing positive results from initial trials. [link] [comments] |
