- The New York State Legislature passed a number of bills this session, including one that would ban “deepfake” images online. Deepfakes are images or videos that have been manipulated to make it appear as if someone is saying or doing something they never said or did. The bill would make it illegal to create or distribute deepfakes that are used to harm or humiliate someone.[3]
