OCR for custom characters

Hello guys,

I wanna ask if someone knows how can I detect custom made characters with OCR. I want to detect the normal alphabet and numbers but in addition for example hieroglyphics. I tried to use YOLO and the hieroglyphics were labeled as AA or MM or something like that, but I want your opinions.
