Researchers at McGill University have created an AI tool called DOLPHIN that spots disease warning signs previously invisible to conventional methods. Instead of looking only at genes as a whole, it zooms in on how genetic “Lego pieces” (exons) are connected inside single cells.
In tests with pancreatic cancer patients, DOLPHIN found 800+ disease markers missed by standard tools, distinguishing between aggressive and less severe cancers. This could help doctors match patients to the right therapies earlier, reducing trial-and-error.
