IBM and the USTA are adding new AI features to the US Open app and USOpen.org for the 2026 tournament. The release names Live Updates, Serve Quality, Key Moments, and an enhanced Match Chat.
Serve Quality tracks 21 body and racquet data points 50 times per second. Match Chat uses live match data, historical information, and AI agents trained in the USTA's editorial style. The release says IBM Confluent manages the live data stream and watsonx Orchestrate powers Match Chat.
The useful engineering detail is the handoff: streaming match data becomes a user-facing explanation in the same product. Accuracy will matter more than novelty when the source data moves every second.
