What are some ideas (that are already being used or upcoming) for AI use in education, and how do you think AI can change how Schools and Universities teach, evaluate, and help students get an education? Talking about actual improvements in the education system with the help of AI, where it can make education easier or more effective, as opposed to just using it for the sake of it.
The reason I ask is I've been reading about personalized learning and how hard it has always been to actually pull it off (until now). Creating learning programs for specific kids, with their skillset, pace, and needs, can change the way younger children are taught, and AI can help evaluate them and generate curriculums (curriculae?), at the very least in special needs schools. This could come hand-in-hand with things like AI-based tutors, although I'd prefer a future with actual people teaching still (but with robot assistants!).
As for AI chatbots as teaching assistants, they could be programmed to help a kid do anything except cheat, and they'd be widely available - both for information and actually helping out like a real teacher would. As someone who's always been a bit shy and rarely asked questions, I'd certainly like to have a personal tutor for it, who is more focused on what I study than models like GPT. AI could (and probably will) be used to create more interactive lessons, with things like custom personalities, voices, images, etc., already working rather well - Moemate being a good example.
As for more technical stuff, AI can analyze students, help grade them, and give homework based on what the students can and can't do. It could also help with peer review (pairing students for projects) and even act as a counselor or psychologist - analyzing patterns in students' behavior, grades, and engagement to predict stress, burnout, or just disinterest.
All I can hope for is AI won't be doing the heavy lifting for students but rather helping teachers reach those kids! I also hope it won't effectively replace human interaction. Other than that, I think there's a lot to be hyped about, and I'd like to hear about any kind of application you think AI will have in teaching.
