Could AIs understand concepts better by making mistakes?

I often compare humans to ais and often see similarities. But for me making mistakes is super important and i like to do things wrong or unusual. And by knowing how not to do it i learn alot.

Would this work for AIs to?

E.g. if an ai knows which shapes are not a cat, would it automatically be better at telling what a cat is? Or does it not matter and be just inperformant?
