Anyone else hate being charged when the model fails?

I frequently get errors when working with Anthropic's Opus 4.5, especially when the context starts to fill up. Frustratingly, the model will generate a ton of tokens before abruptly failing ("An unknown error has occurred"). The response vanishes and I'm back to my original prompt.

Normally this wouldn't bug me that much. However, I recently ran out of usage and had to buy credits to make a deadline. As soon as I did this, I got the error message over and over again. The model DID sometimes complete a response, so I suspect their app is at fault; things get awfully buggy when working with long markdown artifacts.

In any case, I was billed for each and every failed response. I burned through all my credits and never managed to get the task done.

I reached out to Anthropic for help. A full week later they told me to kick rocks.

Something about this feels wrong. You shouldn't bill customers if you fail to provide a service. I'm sure their TOS absolves them of responsibility, but it's still a hostile, BS policy.

Curious whether this is a widespread issue or I just got especially unlucky.

Edit: to clarify, the issue isn't that the response is low quality; it's that the response is completely dropped due to an error in the Claude app or website.
