Hi guys,
Like many people, the latest news of AI is exciting me but almost making me anxious.
My girlfriend is a chartered accountant (ACA) and she does commercial finance, which is forecasting, financial planning, reports and analysis. She acts as a mediator for a large company between finance business partners and provides them the analysis her and her team have put together. She also manages two junior people who are training to be an accountant. Eventually she wants to work her way up to financial controller and financial director.
I know that accounting is one of the areas most vulnerable to AI but what level of accounting? There’s a lot of unqualified and part qualified people she works with who do journal posting, admin tasks etc. and I imagine they will be some of the first which AI take over. But how much at risk is my girlfriend?
I work as a recruitment consultant which means I am vulnerable myself too. Not that someone is going to take my job - but that companies will no longer need employees which will make my job very hard if not redundant. I recruit lawyers and I also know lawyers are susceptible to AI. There is also the problem that if recruiters of other industries move into the legal industry, satirising the market and proving more competition.
Should I be worried? Should my girlfriend be worried? If not, great. But if so how far are we away from this? How can we prepare so that we can keep on earning a living when AI comes in to the frame?
