Lawmakers are renewing concerns about how to rein in artificial intelligence after an Anthropic safety researcher resigned Tuesday evening in a cautionary post about AI developing beyond human control.
Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) plans to hold a closed-door briefing next Wednesday with lawmakers to examine the “extraordinary dangers” of the technology, according to a report from Axios.
Industry experts, including Geoffrey Hinton, whose work on AI neural networks earned him the “Godfather of AI” moniker, along with Ajeya Cotra, one of the researchers who investigated the Open AI-Hugging Face breach, will reportedly attend.
Sanders’s call for the session arrived less than 24 hours after a former AI safety researcher, Jacob Coxton, posted a chilling thread on X about why he’s resigning from Anthropic.
